Sustainable Development (BA, BSc)
Course Code: B1150 B1151
Sustainable development is the great challenge of our age. Sustainable development emphasises solutions which integrate economic, environmental and community considerations. It has become the primary development focus of the global community and is being worked through at all levels of government, the economy and civil society. The Bachelor's degree in Sustainable Development provides a broad and interdisciplinary approach to the many crucial issues related to the sustainability debate, such as population growth, resource use, poverty alleviation, technology development, lifestyles, environmental protection, consumerism, inequality, trade and economic growth. At all times the emphasis is on building connections between theory and practice and helping students to learn how they can 'make a difference'. As an example, students may take STP325 Sustainable Development Project, in which they apply some of the conceptual tools they have learnt to specific problems through data collection and analysis.
